“When Are You Getting Married?”
My 16 year old brother is at a traveling camp this summer. They started in Paris, stopped off in Switzerland, and visited a few cities in Italy before heading to Israel for the last couple weeks of the camp. When sending him off, my mother said to him, “you are to drink a lot, wear sunscreen, and take good care of yourself. You are coming home the day before Dina’s wedding and I want you healthy and in one piece.”
Today he called. “Hi Ma,” he said. “Hi Josh,” my mother said, shocked that he was calling. “How are you?” “Good. How are you?” “I’m good.” “Are you enjoying camp?” “Yeah.” “How’s the weather there?” “Great.” “Where are you calling from?” “You don’t want to know.” Pause. “No, I definitely want to know.” “I’m at an open clinic. I have tracheitis.”
