We usually write to find out what it is we want to say, not to say what we want, and find the truth somewhere in the middle of that struggle between self-delusion and desire for integrity.

I Made Food

Every day I open this window, blank on what to write, and close it again a couple hours later.  I don’t like that I keep doing that so this week I’m going to break this bad habit and just write something every day.  For example, today I made a Bechamel Sauce with Mushrooms, Onions, and Radicchio loosely based on a recipe from one of my cookbooks.  It tastes amazing but my husband doesn’t get off work until 8 tonight so I’m going to wait to cook up the pasta and enjoy it with him.  Usually when I make up a recipe I think, “there’s no way I’ll forget this, it’s so obvious” and then have trouble repeating the recipe perfectly when I try it again weeks later.  So tonight as soon as I was done with the sauce, I jotted it down on a small piece of paper and stuck it to the fridge with the rest of my hodgepodge of recipes.  The end for tonight.
